I'm a busy Mom With Type 1 Diabetes

What do you want others to know about you?

I am a busy Mom with a full time job, and I manage Type 1

Diabetes. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 28. I was in great shape, eating right, exercising, doing all the right things when my life was turned upside down.

What do you use to help you successfully manage your diabetes?

I wear a Dexcom CGM and a Tandem X2 Insulin Pump to help me keep my blood sugar stable. My doctor, Justin Fontenot, encourages me. The Dexcom CGM displays on my iwatch and will alarm me if I need to eat, take insulin, or do nothing. When I am at work, with a patient, or throughout the day, I can look at my blood sugar on my WATCH to see where my blood sugar level is. My Tandem X2 Insulin Pump is easy to use. I like that I can just plug in the numbers and go. I don’t have to think about much, and I like the fact that I don’t have to take a shot every time I eat.

What else are you learning about living with diabetes?

Diabetes Stinks! Bad! But I remind myself that it could be a lot worse.

I enjoy exercising (cycling). I love spending time with my family and playing outside with my little girl and dogs. I try to keep my diet simple with nuts, cheese, meat, veggies, Skinny Pop, and plain Greek yogurt.

I am a bit of a perfectionist so its hard when my blood sugars are not where I want them to be despite eating the right foods. I have learned to relax over the past few years and accept that some things are out of my control.
